Our Pastor - The Rev. Al Henager

Rev. Henager, known to us simply as "Pastor Al," has been our pastor for over five years.  His vision for us is that we become the church God has called us to be in the 21st Century.  He believes that we are here for a reason, and that reason is to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of those around us.

"Business as usual just will not do," he says.  "We cannot focus inwardly on ourselves.  Our focus must be outward to the needs of those in our community.  The Great Commission says we are to go and make disciples, first in Jerusalem, then in Judea, and then in the uttermost parts of the earth.  Argenta is our Jerusalem.  We must start here."

Al has many credentials which include:

  • Over 20 years of experience as an ordained minister
  • Bachelor's degree from Baylor University in Waco, Texas
  • Master's degree from Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas
  • Doctoral work at Midwestern Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri
  • Two years of residency in Clinical Pastoral Education at Methodist Hospital (Now Covenant Health System) in Lubbock, Texas
  • Board Certified Chaplain by the Association of Professional Chaplains
  • Board Certified Clinical Chaplain and Pastoral Counselor with the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy
  • Over 11 years of experience as a professional hospital chaplain
  • Almost 5 years of experience as a director of pastoral care for a large health system
  • Minister of Word and Sacrament in the Presbyterian Church (USA)
  • Minister member of the Presbytery of Arkansas
  • National presenter of workshops on pastoral care
  • Author of a training program for volunteers in pastoral care being used in hospitals and parishes across the nation

His wife Katy plays an active role in the church, helping with the music program and leading a discussion group for young adults.

Al has three children, two step children, two grandchildren, and four step-grandchildren.  His daughter Mollie Mae is one of our acolytes and helps lead the responsive readings in worship.

Our Church Secretary/Treasurer - Betty Jacobs

Betty has been our Secretary/Treasurer since 2002.  While officially "part time," Betty puts in more than a full time effort.

She has a wide variety of experience, including:

  • President of the Parent Teacher Association of Arkansas
  • President of the President's Conference on the Executive Board of the national PTA
  • Served in several executive positions in the Junior League
  • Sustainer in the Junior League
  • President of the Bar Wives Association (for attorneys' spouses)
  • A member of the Arkansas Parlimentary Association.

She has 3 grown children, 3 grandchildren, and one grandchild "on the way."

"I believe the Lord has lead me to this church for a reason, " she said, "to use the skills and expertise I have learned in other positions and life situations."

She enjoys taking care of her grandchildren and training her West Highland terrier Magaurite.
